Proceeding from the keenness of the Sultanate of Oman to actively participate with the international community in the fields relevant to integrity promotion and anti-corruption, the Sultanate of Oman represented by State Audit Institution and related government units participates in the first Global Conference on Harnessing Data to Improve Corruption Measurement held in the United Nations headquarters in Vienna from 31 August to 1 September 2023
The conference aims to raise awareness of the work of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and the International Anti-Corruption Academy, as well as seeking to contribute to the development of corruption measurement methodologies, through discussion and exchange of views on topics related to measuring corruption.
The conference will discuss, through a set of working sessions, a number of main topics, including reviewing the work of the United Nations Office and the initiative of the International Anti-Corruption Academy to build an international index to measure corruption, in addition to discussing countries’ comments on the mechanisms and methodology of measuring corruption, as well as discussing views related to measuring the effectiveness of anti-corruption authorities and policies, and the use of data and technology in monitoring and measuring corruption.
It is worth mentioning that the International Anti-Corruption Academy launched in May 2022 the Global Program for Measuring Corruption, which includes working on a program of cooperation with international organizations, governments, civil society, private sector and academics to design a strong and appropriate approach to measuring corruption.
